Dinosaur Movies: Unknown Island (1948)

Not a bad movie. Story is very good, classical island lost in time type. Group of adventurers travel to the lost uncharted island to take a photos of live prehistoric animals, and there mutiny and megalomania take place and everything goes to ruin. Effects are good and drawn backgrounds are beautifull, but I cannot swallow those dinosaurs though, they are dull and sloppy, very slow, that's not how dinosaurs should act like. No matter it's an old movie, effects are not problem but visualization of dinosaur behavior. Last battle is good though, kinda ripped of King Kong, but nice.
All in all solid movie to watch, not in top of my list of good dinosaur movies

Movie Review: Doragon Heddo (Dragon Head) 2003

Dragon Head is post apocalyptic disaster manga by Minetaro Mochizuki. This was very weird Japanese movie. The major theme in the books is fear. As the woman in the ruined village said, a balance needs to be found between feeling fear and giving into it. Another theme is mystery. It is never stated exactly what happened. The characters guess that a meteor hit Mount Fuji, but it seems that the researcher had something to do with it—perhaps by assassinating the Japanese government, or by use of the nuclear weapons. It is also not stated what condition the rest of the world is in—we learn that some of them have unavailable governments, but they seem to still have a working military. We do not learn any more than the characters. Plot evolves around boy and girl who have awakened on train that was trapped in tunnel, and they realize that something is gone very wrong with the world. Whole Japan is covered in ashes, and everything is in post apocalyptic state, ruins and crazy people all around. They say it's the Earth magnetic field that is causing humans to go mad and be more violent and aggressive. And we have giant volcano that erupts every once in a while and rains down fireballs from the sky, so I guess something is gone wrong with Earth's core. So we follow journey of those two teenagers on their way trying to find safe harbor and remains of human civilization. Human survivors find food storages deep underground in cases of catastrophes like that, but that food is genetically changed. Persons who eat it, became drugged and lose all their feelings, just became puppets, that was also very strange part of the movie, as I said it's not clearly stated why such food is developed, is it government's doing or what. Acting is very good, music is also very good. Movie remind me little on ''lord of the flies'' but with Japanese touch. Effects are also on high level and awesome. Some scenes are little shockful and too violent, but that's just that dose of weirdness that we find in Japanese movies. All in all, very nice movie, sometimes it's slow paced, and it has some weird dialogues, and it's two hours long (I love long movies). I recommend you watch it if you like Asian cinema. You could have fun two hours.

Movie review: Megan Is Missing (2011)

Writter/Director: Michael Goi
Cast: Amber Perkins , Rachel Quinn  and Dean Waite

First of all, this is a movie that makes you think. I, myself, found myself dwelling on every time I met someone from the internet. After that, I found myself thinking how I will monitor computer of my child (and I don’t have a child yet XD).

"Megan is missing" is told from the point of view of Web cams, cell phones, surveillance footage, news reports and hand-held video clips to make this movie even more real.  First of all, I’m not a fan of movies like Cloverfield and Blair Witch project, only because I get really pissed off by camera moves and end up moving my head in strange angles trying to see something. But this movie is something different.

Megan is a 14 year old, popular and good student. The dark side of the Megan`s life is that she was raped by her stepfather when she was 9, and her mother blames her for everything. She also drinks, does drugs and is very promiscuous. Behind everything, we see her wish to have someone to understand her and really “see” her. Her best friend, Amy, is her opposite. She is shy, introvert and unpopular. Megan meets this guy on the internet, called Josh, that quickly sees through her needs and they arrange meeting. Next day, Megan is missing. Frightened by Megan's absence, Amy calls the police trying to solve Megan`s missing. She ends up missing also, and after that, everything is pure horror.

I see many people think this movie is too much, and is very sick. After watching “Serbian movie” I can’t say that I share that opinion. Movie is indeed very sick, but it describes something that can happen to you, or your children. We should not live thinking there are no very sick people around us. Internet is something we can be very grateful for, but it also brings much danger. People like “Josh” in this movie are closer than ever to your children, or to you. If you don’t take care of your child, like Megan’s mother, you make your child wishing care and protection from outer world. There are many pedophiles that know this, and will take advantage of it. This movie is a warning. Take care of your children, inform them. Don’t let them beg for love and attention on the internet.

Movie review: Dylan Dog: Dead of the night (2011)

What to say about this movie?
I am a big Dylan Dog fan. I still remember being ten years old and stealing my brothers comics and looking particularly for Dylan Dog. I remember having nightmares after wards, dreaming of zombies, dead people and all the rest.
Why was I so impressed with Dylan? He was a young man investigating crimes involving supernatural (at that time I was a big fan of everything unusual…well, I am still XD), handsome, a little clumsy and always in love with strange women.
When I heard they are filming movie, I was happy, but I knew it could never be something as great as the comic itself.  As I expected- so it was.
Plot is not so unusual for Dylan Dog. Elizabeth`s father was killed by werewolf, so Dylan was called to help. Dylan is at the time in retirement and working some stupid jobs.  He refuses the job, but after wards his employee Marcus was killed by a zombie. After that he starts to investigate both crimes. After that his employee rises from the dead and becomes zombie. They visit werewolves, vampires, zombies and fight Belial.
Effects are good, acting also. But I’m little disappointed with Dylan. I expected someone more interesting for this character. I really don’t find this actor as sexy as Dylan should be. Something is wrong, I can’t say particularly what, but it followed me through the movie.
Movie is not bad. Dylan, zombies, vampires, werewolves and Belial, but we’ve seen it all before. I think there are more interesting stories involving Dylan that should be filmed. They could read a few comic issues and write a better script.  Dylan deserves that!
It is also clear that the budget for the movie was low. Huge Zombie was really funny and Belials costume was not so convincing.
I can`t say is this movie worth watching. If you are a fan, you will get pretty much pissed. If you are not, give it a try. There is nothing wrong with it, but it`s nothing special. And Dylan….Dylan is always special….

I give it 5/10

Movie review: Sucker Punch (2011)

Sucker Punch (2011) review
written by Ravenlord & Lydia Skellinton

Ravenlord:
Just watched Sucker Punch tonight with my girlfriend, what to say, hmm, really weird movie by the way. Young girl finishes in the asylum, after witnessing her stepfather killing her mother, and later trying to rape her and her sister. There she experiences her attempts to escape, through a set of dream sequences, where she is the heroine battling evil and saving her friends. Besides imagining her as a heroine, she imagines that whole asylum is some kind of dance theater. It really resembles to Moulin Rouge. Their task is to find certain items that would help them escape. She imagines herself in big battle sequences, every time she is in the quest for certain item, actually she imagines herself as a heroine in a imaginary world whilst plot is happening now, in the real world. Special effects and CGI are breathtaking, everything looks so beautiful, but it's not enough to keep this movie afloat. Acting is decent, and plot is pretty ok, sometimes confusing, but ok. But something is missing in this movie, and we felt it whole time while watching it. Those great scenes alone are worth seeing the movie, but main plot has many problems that are blurring the whole picture. Sometimes movie seems so hard to track and understand, even pointless, and i didn't like the end of it also, i was kinda disappointed in the end, I expected stronger message and greater picture in the end. What to say, it's ok movie to watch but it's not something you would like to go back to and watch it again and again. Another bright point is soundtrack, some old hit songs were recorded again for the purpose of this movie, and it sounds cool. What to say in conclusion? Give it a shot, at least for decent story, beautiful special effects, and pretty girls.

rating 5/10

Lydia Skellinton:

I think that the whole message of movie is messed up. First we have a girl that was severely traumatized and gone insane. Then this girl refuses the see mental institution as it is, but rather sees it as a Moulin Rouge place. In that place we again have people she wants to protect (as her sister), and in that illusion we have another illusion of her being a heroine killing monsters and saving her friends. After that she saves her friend that is only a symbol for her sister (and we all know she will be brought back to asylum), she begs for lobotomy. Really cool.  I see no message in this movie.
In the end we have a short speech that whatever we do/see/say/etc in our lives is only our fault. What is the meaning of the whole movie? To say “okay, this girl is crazy and I will not be as crazy as she is”, or to say “it’s all her fault”. Is she guilty because her step dad was maniac that was after her mother’s money?  Is her choice to accidentally kill her sister?
I really don’t get the point. For God’s sake, if anyone sees it, please inform me. I think this film is worth watching. This movie is from my point of view just another people catcher and money maker. All good things have already been seen before, but here they're mixed together but with no sense. You can see girls that are heaven for pedophiles, battle scenes and very good effects. But to see any sense in it, or understand if  No. Not at all.

rating  6/10 (only because of CGI, and great soundtrack)
